The agreement

When you install or use OffTrail (the "App") you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, the cleanest fix is to not use the App. Uninstalling normally removes data stored inside the App, but it does not remove GPX files you exported, copies you shared, device backups, or data temporarily held by an active network feature until that feature expires. What OffTrail is

OffTrail is an offline-first GPX navigation app for adventure motorcycling, off-road driving and other outdoor navigation. You import a GPX track, the App shows the map and your position relative to the track, and records your ride as a GPX file you can export. It can also build a route to a place you pick (Track to) and give turn-by-turn guidance along it. There is no public community feed, no public rider profile and no public route-sharing network. Optional features such as Group ride and Family Follow let you deliberately share live location with people you choose.

Routes, safety and off-road use

OffTrail is a navigation aid, not a safety system, and the routes it shows are navigation assistance, not verified or certified safe routes. Routes are generated on a best-effort basis using available map, routing and related data; they are not physically inspected or verified by OffTrail, and map and routing data may be incomplete, inaccurate or outdated. GPS positions can also be wrong by tens of metres or wholly unavailable in canyons, dense forest, or under heavy cloud cover.

OffTrail does not guarantee that a route is safe, open, legal, passable, obstacle-free or suitable for your vehicle, experience or skill level. A generated route may contain or lead to potholes, rocks, erosion, damaged surfaces, water crossings, mud, sand, fallen trees, gates, construction works, private property, closed roads or trails, seasonal closures, protected areas, access or vehicle restrictions, unexpected traffic, dangerous terrain, or other hazards that are not in the map data. The absence of an OffTrail warning does not mean a route is safe.

You remain responsible for your riding or driving decisions and for adapting your speed, route and behaviour to the actual road, trail, terrain, traffic, weather and visibility conditions. Always assess the terrain and surroundings yourself. Stop, turn back or choose another route whenever actual conditions differ from what is shown in OffTrail or whenever continuing would be unsafe. Never follow the App when doing so would be unsafe or unlawful.

A route shown or generated by OffTrail does not establish any legal right of access. The fact that a path exists in map data does not mean it is a public way, that motor vehicles, motorcycles or 4x4s are allowed, that it is currently open, or that the landowner permits access. You remain responsible for local law, traffic rules, signage, land-access restrictions, protected-area rules and temporary closures. Real-world conditions, road signs, official instructions and your own observation always take precedence over information shown in OffTrail.

Do not interact with OffTrail in a way that distracts you from driving or riding safely. Configure routes and settings while stopped whenever interaction would distract from safe operation of the vehicle.

Liability

OffTrail is provided free of charge and on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, OffTrail does not accept liability for loss resulting from reliance on map, routing, navigation, weather or other information provided through OffTrail, or from interruptions, inaccuracies or errors in the service. You remain responsible for decisions made while riding, driving or navigating and for responding appropriately to actual conditions. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, consumer rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Permitted and prohibited use

Use OffTrail for lawful navigation and outdoor activities. You may share the GPX files OffTrail records, post screenshots, and recommend the App to other riders. You may not:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source from the binary, except to the extent that mandatory law (for example EU directives on interoperability) explicitly allows.
• Track another person without their knowledge or permission — through Group ride, Family Follow or any other feature.
• Discover, enumerate or access another user's private session, Follow link, transfer code, synced data or other non-public information.
• Deliberately interfere with, overload, disrupt or abuse OffTrail's network services.
• Use OffTrail to facilitate unlawful entry onto private land, protected areas, or areas closed to motorised traffic (including trespassing "because the GPX said so").

Group ride and Family Follow

Group ride and Family Follow are voluntary sharing tools. You choose whether to share and with whom; the codes and links are private, and anyone holding a valid code or link can see the location you chose to share while the session is active. Do not use them to track anyone covertly.

OffTrail is not an emergency service and does not replace emergency numbers, rescue services, satellite communicators or other dedicated emergency equipment. It does not continuously monitor participants' safety. A location-sharing feature does not guarantee that another person will see the message, receive the location, have connectivity, or be able to provide assistance.

Your data

OffTrail stores tracks, recordings, and offline tiles on your phone by default. Optional features send the data needed for that feature: live location during a Group ride or Family Follow session, imported tracks when you enable device sync, map tile requests and routing requests, and — if you use Send to OffTrail — a generated route. Third-party services and map data

Some OffTrail features rely on third-party services for maps, routing, weather, infrastructure, e-mail, crash diagnostics or platform functionality. Those services may be subject to their own terms and privacy practices and may occasionally be unavailable. Where a provider processes personal data on OffTrail's behalf, this does not remove the responsibilities that applicable law places on OffTrail.

• OffTrail's own tile service — the Base and Off-road styles, built from OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL), with OpenFreeMap as a public fallback for areas we haven't built yet, rendered with MapLibre.
• Esri — World Imagery raster tiles for the optional Satellite style. Subject to Esri's master agreement; the required attribution is shown while satellite is on screen.
• Cloudflare — provides the infrastructure OffTrail runs its website, Planner, realtime relays (Group ride, Family Follow), sync relay, tile service and routing edge on. Group ride sessions are ephemeral; device sync stores imported GPX files while the pairing exists.
• BRouter — the routing engine our routing service forwards route computation to.
• Open-Meteo — the weather chip on the Ride screen, queried with a deliberately coarsened position.
• Google Firebase — pseudonymous usage statistics and crash reports. No GPS coordinates, tracks or route names are sent.
• Amazon Web Services (SES) — sending e-mail, for example replies to a contact message.
• Apple and Google — platform services, device-integrity checks, and reverse-geocoding to name the endpoints of a generated route.

Map and routing data is owned by its respective providers; OffTrail claims no ownership over third-party map data. If any of these services change their terms or become unavailable, we will adapt OffTrail in a future release.

Intellectual property

OffTrail — its code, brand mark, name, original interface, content and documentation — belongs to Ricardo Costa. This does not extend to your GPX tracks, to third-party map data, to open-source software, or to third-party content, which remain with their owners. Where a feature needs to act over content you provide (for example to route through it, or sync it between your own devices), you grant only the limited permission needed to operate that feature — no broad or perpetual licence.

Availability and discontinuation

OffTrail does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. Routing, map servers, Group ride, Family Follow and other network services may be unavailable at times, and platform changes may break functionality. OffTrail may also change or discontinue features or the service; an existing installation may keep working for some time, but network services, map downloads, routing, platform integrations or compatibility with future operating-system versions may eventually stop working.

Your consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms removes mandatory rights that apply to you under consumer or other applicable law.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Portuguese law, without prejudice to mandatory rights or protections that may apply to consumers in their country of residence. Any dispute that can't be resolved by writing to [email protected] first may be brought before the competent courts; EU consumers keep the right to bring a complaint in their country of residence.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when we ship features that change what the App does. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change, and material changes are also signalled in the app or in the release notes. Continued use of a feature is not treated as consent to every kind of processing; where processing relies on your consent, that stays separate.

Language versions

OffTrail publishes these terms in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The three versions are intended to express the same terms, and any interpretation must remain consistent with applicable law.
